Dr. William Seeds
This Ben Greenfield podcast includes two guests, both influential people in the field of peptide treatments and a balanced approach to health and fitness. One is leading peptides educator and health and fitness researcher, (our very own) Dr. William Seeds.
Dr. Seeds is a doctor with certifications in sports medicine, orthopedic surgery, regenerative surgery, and anti-aging techniques. He treats athletes the world over and provides services at the Olympic Training Center located in Geneva, Switzerland.
Dr. Seeds also serves as a consultant to Dancing With the Stars on ABC, helping dancers return to peak form after injuries. He is also the medical director for the New Initiative of Regenerative Medicine of the NFL Hall of Fame.
Dr. Seeds is passionate about advocating for peptide treatment as a solution for several diseases, injuries, as well as disorders to mental health, pain, and addiction. With over 25 years of extensive experience of peptide therapy research under his belt, Dr. Seeds built the International Peptide Society.
The International Peptide Society is the sole organization which has certification as well as fellowship training in known peptide treatments. It serves as the authority in peptides and leads education for doctors and health care providers alike.
Mr. Jeremy Delk
The second guest is Mr. Jeremy Delk. He is an entrepreneur with over a decade of success with innovative new technologies, products, and niche markets.
Mr. Delk has moved back to his home Kentucky to grow his company, which counts Tailor Made Compounding, a peptides arm.
Mr. Delk has expanded Delk Enterprises from real estate to diverse private equity. These include holdings in sports medicine, animal health, pharmacy, and human health initiatives.
What Are Peptides?
Peptides are a natural signaling agent consisting of short-chain amino acids. They reproduce the body’s ability in signaling through its neurotransmitters, enzymes, and hormones.
Peptides can even maintain a cell’s state of neutrality by isolating non-functioning signaling agents and repairing them.
Peptides are not a new treatment option: Insulin, a peptide, has been widely used as a treatment option since the 1920s. Peptide use has so far been impactful in neurodegenerative diseases, autoimmune dysfunction, diabetes and more.
Peptides for Anti-Aging
Both speakers agree the number one risk factor for any disease is aging. Dr. Seeds notes the adaptive intelligence of cells, responding to damage or stress by organizing itself to adapt.
However, this wear and tear (called Allostatic load) due to constant exposure to stress is what eventually leads to aging. The body would enter a senescent state in which cells would stop dividing to assess how to handle this stress, leading into the true senescent state where it changes its phenotype.
By changing its phenotype, a cell produces chemicals which are pro-inflammatory to the cell. Normally, our immune system can handle senescent cells, but when aging produces more and more senescent cells the immune system’s effectiveness is crippled.
Peptides are helpful because they can be designed to uniquely help regulate senescent cells. They may also regulate autophagy which means the peptides help cells clean out components which are dysfunctional or unnecessary.
Which Peptides Should Be Considered for Anti-Aging?
There are a variety of peptides which can help but Dr. Seeds discusses how cells work and how peptides can be used first:
Cells function like a see-saw. They contain AMPK and mTOR: the former giving the cells its energy and the latter helping build the cell back together.
AMPK can switch off mTOR for a while, allowing for autophagy. Once mTOR has its turn, autophagy can no longer be performed as it proceeds to build up the cell all over again.
Here are the peptides which prove beneficial for anti-aging:
- MOTS-c – This is the so-called magic bullet promoting autophagy. It corrects metabolic imbalances and works to improve the metabolic flexibility of muscles, glucose, and insulin sensitivity.
- FOXO4 – This induces a cell to go into apoptosis and can specifically target senescent cells. It helps control cell cycle metabolism as well.
- Humanin – This is a peptide which is mitochondrially derived and has similar functions to MOTS-c, helping clean out bad proteins in cells. But compared to the easy application of MOTS-c, humanin has a more complicated dosage and delivery mode.
A Peptide Which Can Help SIBO and Gut Stability
Our host discusses his recent encounter with a peptide which is touted to help with gut stability:
- LL37 – A powerful, antimicrobial peptide known for eradicating bloating and small intestinal bacterial overgrowth (SIBO). The bad news is it can sometimes attack the wrong bacteria, even the good bacteria, leading to less diverse gut flora which can have negative effects on the digestive system.
Peptides for Hair Loss
Dr. Seeds presents certain peptides as a good treatment for hair loss:
- PTD-DBM – A lengthy peptide which helps suppress the Wnt/β-catenin pathway. It upregulates the pathways and rescues stem cells from suppression.
- Thymosin-Beta 4 (Tβ4) or TB 500- A peptide which chases after senescent cells affecting interleukin 1 beta and turns off cell senescence
- GHK-Cu or Valproic Acid – A tripeptide which functions for wound care and helps stem cells activate and proliferate. It is usually done along with microdermabrasion on the scalp.

Peptide Stacks for Cognition and Memory
Peptides are also widely used to help improve memory and fight cognitive failure:
- FG Loop (FGL) – A peptide which mimics the function of neural adhesion molecules helping the synaptic plasticity of neuro synapses, thereby improving memory. It calms down microglial cells which, when active, work as the brain’s cleanup mechanism.
- Dihexa – A neuropeptide widely used in combatting neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases. It improves the blood flow into the brain and stops constrictions in the blood vessels.
Peptides for Sleep Assistance
The brain drains its lymphatic system during stage 4 of the sleeping cycle. This makes it important to sleep long and deep enough to complete a healthy circadian rhythm.
- GHS-R1a – A growth hormone secretagogue receptor commonly expressed in the brain. When GHS-R1a binds to ghrelin, it stimulates the growth hormone in the pituitary gland.
- GHS-R1b – A variant of GHS-R1b which is non-signaling
How to Keep Yourself Informed on Using Peptides
Peptides are still continuously being developed and tested, so customers should be able to educate themselves before making decisions. Dr. Seeds recommends patients and customers should always be under the supervision of a physician properly educated on peptides and their relation to biohacking.
